Thank you to all who attended our Open Day on Saturday 11th May. With considerable help from and input from my caring and massively experienced Bereavement Services Team, a wonderful day was extensively planned, including some fantastic weather.

It also coincided with Dying Matters Awareness Week, providing our local communities the opportunity to see behind the scenes of a crematorium, dispelling age-old myths, easing concerns, and even aiding the grieving process.

The focus of the day was our pre-booked ‘guided tours’ every half hour, covering and showing every aspect of the daily workings of the crematorium. This was followed by an opportunity to speak to a range of exhibitors, both local and national companies, who had given up their time to support the Open Day, while enjoying some lovely refreshments kindly provided by the ladies from The Starlight Tea Chapel.

The guided tours were oversubscribed, in addition to the numerous people who chose to just wander around our new memorial gardens and fuss over our famous crematorium cat, ‘Boots’.

The wonderful comments recorded in our visitors’ book left us in no doubt regarding the overwhelming value of holding Open Days and sharing every element of the professional service that we provide.

I am thankful to have an excellent Comms Team at Colchester City Council, in particular Winnie, who was great before, during and after the event.

And of course, I am thankful to my team, because without them, I wouldn’t be so confident and proud to show off everything that we do.
