In December ‘24 Government announced a Covid-19 ‘Day of Reflection’ for Sunday 9th March marking the 5th anniversary of the outbreak of the pandemic.

The ‘Day of Reflection’ would provide communities with an opportunity to remember not only the lives that were lost but also the sheer impact felt across all aspects of society during those challenging times.

Here at Colchester Crematorium we have erected a memorial not only for the 9th March but as a permanent reminder and place of reflection for years to come.

We marked this occasion with a short service conducted by Rev Peter Evans before the memorial was unveiled by Leader of the Council Cllr David King and Deputy Mayoress Lyn Barton. The memorial depicts an angel holding a dandelion and was chosen due to its symbolism of hope, healing and resilience.

There are 6 flowers vases adjacent to the memorial, these can be used by anyone. The Bereavement Services team will periodically remove perished flowers.
