Cemetery

The Cemetery in Colchester is run by Colchester city Council Bereavement Services team.

The beautiful cemetery was opened in 1856, and is full of mature trees and marvellous Victorian headstones. Over 64,000 people have been buried here since the cemetery opened. The 64 acres are home to a wide diversity of flora and fauna, from barn owls to badgers, and foxes to fungi. The grounds are lovingly tended by a team of contracted gardeners.
Nestling in the heart of the old cemetery, one of the cemetery chapels has been opened as an attractive tea room, run by the starlight tea chapel team.
The other chapel is currently being renovated to bring it back to how it would have been when it was constructed in the late 1800,s
